Everyone goes job shopping.
If only the process was as easy as actual grocery shopping. How marvellous would it be to walk into the job bank, grab a cart, walk to the PR section (aisle three, right next to the marketing jobs and journalism jobs;) ) and pick out the ideal jobs to apply for. It would make life a lot easier.
Unfortunately, things don’t work that way.
I’m not currently looking for a job, but I’m definitely getting ready to, so in a sense I’m a job window-shopper. Aided with the Internet, I’ve been browsing several corporations and agencies, trying to figure out where I’d fit in, what I can do for each company and what they can do for met, etc.
In my window-shopping, I’ve come across the greatest statement for a corporate culture I’ve ever seen, in my opinion. (A thank you goes to Tanya for linking me up with this site.)
How amazing is this:

It’s inspiring, it’s comforting, and it’s all I need to know about Apple’s corporate culture to get me applying!

It really is hard to self-analyze and see where we would fit in, eh? We are so used to falling into things and simply having summer or part-time jobs. This is a whole new level that most of us are not used to. Quite scary. The real world….
Apple’s corporate culture really is inspiring. It truly does give me hope that there is something out there the perfect fit for all of us “crazies”.
Hi Lisa, I can definitely see you as a good fit for the corporate culture descirbed in Apple’s advertisement. However, I can’t help but wonder if they really comply to this philosophy. It’s definitely refreshing and, actually, almost find it impossible to believe. Best of luck!
I’m with Kristen on this. I do know that Apple encourages all of their employees to come up with creative ideas, and if they’re feasable, the company patents them and works them into future designs. One patent I recently heard about is a monitor with a built in laptop dock that essentially converts a macbook into a 20″ iMac (link at the end).
On the other hand, Apple really just a software company that also designs their hardware. Are they really that different from Microsoft?

Two really big issues for corporations these days: attracting suitable employees and retaining them. So, smart companies create ads to inspire “their kind” to apply. And, I think creative ads like this speak volumes and, as you suggest, about the company’s culture. All smart stuff, I think.

I agree Lisa…great post…great blogsite! As a Mac person myself (Mac being a ‘macdaddy’ and a MacBook user), I can relate with the whole brand identity. I recently visited a Mac store and I was impressed with their friendly service, atmosphere (cool, chic and..well..should I say Mac’nificient). Even look at their television ads which is a clever example of how to run an ad campaign. The message is clear, the theme is catchy but not overkill, there exists product differentiation, and it’s simple yet convincing.
Brilliant! It speaks to a wide audience but with a common trait…Creative, cool, hip and stylish…wait..that’s you Lisa!

Although I do not buy in to Apple’s marketing schemes, seeing Apple as a master of pseudo-individualization, I understand the strife of finding an organization with an appropriate corporate culture. I always pictured myself in a power-suit, working downtown in a fancy office. However, I recently went for an interview at Langton Communications and fell for their culture. The office is warm and laid back, and the women that work there are extremely friendly and welcoming. Despite the relaxed environment, they work hard and get a lot done. If the office wasn’t in Woodbridge, I could totally see myself working there. Now, I am unsure whether I was wrong about what I wanted in a corporate culture, or whether there is more than one culture for me.
